Japan: Net buying continued in June - Nomura

Analysts at Nomura note that the Japanese investment in foreign securities continued to recover in June.

“Banks maintained relatively strong momentum in foreign bond investment, while momentum of foreign investment activities excluding banks also remained relatively strong. Lifers’ foreign bond investment remained subdued, but pension funds and toshin companies were major net buyers.”

“Although political uncertainty could weaken lifers’ foreign investment activities for the time being, we expect Japanese investors’ foreign investment to stay strong. Japanese investors were net buyers of euro area bonds in June, which suggests the selling in May was likely temporary.”
